Abstract
This essay outlines two approaches to Internet research as an area of scholarship, the disciplined and the "indisciplined." The former approach involves departments and curricula and is more stable in the long term but the chances of success are low. The latter approach is more flexible, emphasizing interaction between scholars and innovation without classics and constraints. Copyright © Taylor & Francis Inc.
