Abstract
The implementation of integrated primary and behavioral health care (PBHC) programs in community mental health (CMH) settings is a recent healthcare service delivery transformation that represents a shift to a more patient-centered and recovery-oriented system of care for persons with serious mental illness (SMI). Providers of integrated PBHC are developing and testing new approaches for delivering collaborative, interdisciplinary team-based care. Social work, with its emphasis on contextualized practice and its commitment to social justice and empowerment principles, is well suited to contribute to the knowledge base in this rapidly emerging field of study. This brief piece introduces three full-length articles reporting on original research investigating different aspects of integrated PBHC in social work.
