Abstract
Compared to other techniques used to study memory, recording eye movements can be relatively unobtrusive. In addition, recording eye movements also allows the investigator to ask questions that might not be answerable using conventional behavioural methods. In this chapter we present a brief history of the use of eye movement techniques to study scene memory and memory during visual search and discuss the theoretical frameworks that attempt to explain the interactions between attention, eye movements, and memory.
