Abstract
Transportation plays an important role in a supply chain operation where the materials flow in batches. Most models developed for supply chain systems assume that the transporters' capacities are sufficient enough to deal with the timely delivery of materials. If considering the capacitated transporters, the optimal shipment size and the number of transporters are subjected to optimization for an economic planning. This research studies a supply chain system operating under kanban mechanism with the capacitated transporters. A logistic model is built for controlling the materials delivery, which results in minimizing the total cost of the supply chain.
