Biography of all authors

Robert Herbert is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Louisiana State University. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in 2023. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2022, and B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University. He has co-authored over 19 journal publications, including in Science Advances, Advanced Functional Materials, and Nature Communications. He was recently named a member of Georgia Tech’s 2025 class of 40 Under 40. His lab focuses on the development and application of soft electronics and robotics, with points of emphasis across medical devices, biomechanics, additive manufacturing, and multifunctional materials. His lab addresses topics ranging from implantable vascular sensors to space-grade soft electronics.
