Biography of all authors
Ricki Pierce is a Master’s student in Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering, with a minor in Robotics, from LSU in December 2024. Her research interests include biomechanics and its application to orthotics and prosthetics.
Hunter Gilbert, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at LSU and holds the Wooley Professorship in Engineering Mechanics. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in 2010 and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2016. From 2016 to 2017, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany, supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He joined LSU as an Assistant Professor in 2017. Dr. Gilbert’s research focuses on robots with highly deformable bodies for applications in inspection and healthcare, mechanics-based modeling, and technologies for human health and wellness, including medical devices.
Hyun Kyung Kim, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology at LSU. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Korea National Sport University and completed her M.S. in Exercise Science and Ph.D. in Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She subsequently held postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Auckland and Iowa State University before joining LSU in August 2022. Dr. Kim’s research focuses on musculoskeletal biomechanics, medical imaging, wearable sensor technologies, and motion capture analysis. Her work emphasizes understanding muscle morphology and movement patterns, particularly in relation to lower-limb injuries, with the goal of improving performance and injury prevention through integrated biomechanical assessment.
