Abstract
As the COVID-19 pandemic roiled teaching and learning around the world in Spring 2020, teachers were hailed as heroes for their quick pivots to virtual or remote learning, their responsiveness to students’ needs, and the deep care they showed for students. Yet, who cared for teachers and those studying to become teachers? In this chapter, two teacher educators use ongoing conversation to reflect on their evolving understandings of care in response to teaching and learning during the pandemic. Three main threads emerged in from these conversations: (1) the importance; (2) the complexity; and (3) the cost of caring. The authors introduce these themes and offer personal reflections on each as they consider how teacher educators might approach care post-pandemic.
