Abstract
Teachers must be comfortable implementing various research- or evidence-based interventions to manage challenging behaviors to develop a comprehensive behavior management plan. In this chapter we review a host of effective research- or evidence-based behavioral practices teachers can implement to address problematic student behaviors. These interventions are aimed at students who are considered at risk for school failure and receiving Tier 2 services within Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports frameworks. While some of the interventions are designed for individual students, others can be used with the entire class. Interventions include overcorrection, timeout, goal setting, self-monitoring, token economies, behavioral contracts, Check-In, Check-Out, Class Pass Intervention, the Good Behavior Game, and Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams.
