Abstract
From the view of slack resources, profitability is crucial for a firm to implement eco-innovation. Nevertheless, existing studies that investigate the relationship between corporation's profitability and eco-innovation, rarely examine corporation's profitability as a driving factor of eco-innovation. To fill this gap, the authors conducted an empirical study to determine the impact of corporation's profitability on eco-innovation, using the balanced panel data of high and new technology enterprises (HTEs) in Shanghai, China, from 2010 to 2015. The results reveal that corporation's profitability has positive effect on product eco-innovation. In addition, both firm size and R&D intensity are positively related to product eco-innovation. Product and process eco-innovation both exhibit path dependency.
