Abstract
Studies comparing males and females have not examined the relationship between self–concept and self–presentation. In this study, one hundred subjects described themselves using a checklist and then told a narrative that they frequently tell others; the narratives were content analyzed for self–defining characteristics. The results reveal that males and females have similar self–concepts, but present different, more gender–typed selves in their narratives. © 1997, Copyright Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
