Chemical and rheological evaluation of asphalts incorporating RAP/RAS binders and warm-mix technologies in relation to crack resistance

Abstract
This study was aimed to evaluate chemical and rheological properties of recovered asphalt binders, and to ascertain their implications on crack resistance as determined by the semi-circular bend test on the asphalt mixtures. The asphalt mixtures incorporated various contents of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) and warm-mix asphalt (WMA) technologies. The determined asphalt binder parameters generally presented consistent trends with respect to RAP/RAS content. The WMA technologies evaluated were found to produce mixtures with similar cracking performance with the conventional hot-mix asphalt mixtures. The rank correlations between asphalt properties and mixtures’ crack resistance was also evaluated.
