Abstract

A basis for assessing risk of emissions from landfarm activities in Gulf Coast states was developed by measuring fluxes of VOC and H2S in landfarm cells utilized for treating oilfield exploration and production waste in coastal Louisiana. Variations in the magnitude of fluxes over the life cycle of such cells were measured. Biogeochemical parameters such as sulfate reduction rates in the cells were also quantified. A comparison of measured fluxes of VOC and H2S and those determined from mass transfer models was then carried out.
