Abstract
The capabilities a framework for model-centric framework for support of process systems, integrating and easing the definition of offline simulation, parameter estimation, data reconciliation, and optimization problems were extended to formulate and solve online activities related to parameter estimation, data reconciliation, and transition planning. Different complex online dynamic parameter estimation, dynamic data reconciliation, and transition planning problems were solved when the framework was coupled to an OPC server for a packed distillation unit. This demonstrated the capabilities of the framework for more advanced real-time applications. The unit is equipped with a total condenser, a partial reboiler, and a pump-back reflux system. Feed is introduced between the two packed sections and reflux enters at the top of the tower. An ethylene glycol system provides heat to a thermosiphon reboiler. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE 2010 Spring National Meeting (San Antonio, TX 3/21-25/2010).
